As the new Principal of Ward School I look forward to seeing how our Tamariki continue to develop and grow as active learners and participants in our community. Our vision of Leading Our Learning – Whai Akoranga drives everyone to be on TRACK at Ward School. We want our learners to know that they can make a difference to what and how they learn, the choices they make, and the relationships they have with others and their environment. Our “On TRACK” school values of being Together, Respectful, Adaptable, Creative, and Kind are the foundation of how we think, act, behave and grow at Ward School. At Ward School we create opportunities for every learner to have success and feel inspired to lead their learning by using “On TRACK” values all the way to the SEA. We want our awesome students to be Self-managing, Engaged, Active learners who think critically and seek to make positive impacts in their current and future communities.

Hello all Rippa Rugby has been cancelled tonight (11/4) due to poor weather in Blenheim
Dear Reef Parents/ Caregivers
Thank you to those parents who were able to attend on Monday night. As discussed I am currently in the 4th cycle of advertising for a teacher to fill the Reef Vacancy. So far we have only had 1 applicant who after interviewing, the board and I decided was not suitable. The current vacancy advert closes on the 18th of April.
I am very conscious of finding the right person to fill the vacancy. As this is a permanent position we need someone who is capable of meeting the needs of the Reef Classroom and Ward School as a whole. As we currently have 2 teachers relatively new to the profession we require a teacher with a bit more experience to bring balance to our team.
I discussed with the group on Monday some possible options for moving forward with Reef until a suitable replacement is found. Ultimately, my number one goal is to provide some consistency for the reef students so they can still receive a quality learning programme.
These are the options I am considering
1: - Job share with a 3-day/ 2 Day split. - I could teach 3 days and find a relief teacher to teach the other 2 days. I have approached a number of people to see if they would be interested in working the 2 Days. Since our meeting on Monday, I have 2 possible candidates that I will be talking to before the end of the term that could make this happen
2: If I couldn’t get someone to do 2 days I could teach the mornings and 2 afternoons. For the other 3 afternoons we would combine Reef and Wave Pool to run an Arts based programme in preparation for a production/ show at the end of the Term
Please know that I understand neither option is ideal and we will endeavour to take every step we can to ensure a quality programme is delivered to our Reef students. I will be in regular contact to let you know if anything changes and I will be sending out a more detailed plan in the second week of the holidays with what the school week will look like for Reef.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Ngā mihi nui,
